Biografie
Jaap Musschenga (Ulrum, 1990) begon zijn muzikale carrière al op 7 jarige leeftijd bij de plaatselijke fanfare. Na geruime tijd bugel te hebben gespeeld, stapte hij in 2006 over op euphonium.
Na de middelbare school heeft hij met succes toelatingsexamen gedaan aan het Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen. Hij studeerde hier Hafabra-directie, tenor tuba en de master-opleiding Wind-Band-Conducting. Voor alle opleidingen slaagde hij ‘cum laude’.
Op dit moment dirigeert Jaap verschillende orkesten, waaronder brassband 'De Bazuin' Oenkerk, fanfare ‘Eendracht maakt Macht’ uit Oudega, fanfare ‘De Bazuin’ uit Augustinusga, het 'Frysk Fanfare Kollektyf' en projectfanfare Orkest op maat! Met al deze orkesten behaalde Jaap indrukwekkende resultaten, waaronder nationale en internationale titels.
Daarnaast won Jaap onlangs (2025) de prestigieuze 8e Europese Dirigentenwedstrijd in Stavanger (Noorwegen) en wordt hij gezien als een van de meest veelbelovende jonge dirigenten van dit moment.
In september 2015 won Jaap als eerste dirigent de VNO-NCW talent award. Deze award wordt jaarlijks uitgereikt aan een talent uit Noord Nederland die uitblinkt op het gebied van muziek of dans. Naast een trofee en een oorkonde ontving Jaap een studiebeurs.
Tegenwoordig werkt Jaap als gastdirigent, jurylid en docent regelmatig samen met verschillende HaFaBra-orkesten in Nederland.
Biography
Jaap Musschenga (The Netherlands 1990) started his musical career at a local fanfare band in his hometown. After a couple of years he switched to euphonium in 2006 and started his study ‘euphonium’ and wind-, fanfare-, and brassband conducting at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen. In 2012 & 2014 he graduated with credits. In September 2014 he started with the new study Wind Band Conducting at the same conservatory and he graduated also with credits in 2015.
At this moment Jaap conducts several orchestra’s such as brassband De Bazuin Oenkerk, the Frysian Fanfare Band fanfare band, Eendracht Maakt Macht from Oudega and Fanfare De Bazuin from Augustinusga. With all his orchestra’s he won National and International titles.
From 2014 on Jaap is conducting several orchestras as a guest conductor like the ‘Koninklijke Militaire Kapel Johan Willem Friso’ and the National Orchestra from the Police. Jaap was assistant conductor of famous conductors like Ed Spanjaard and Jan Stulen.
In may 2025 Jaap was the winner of the 8th European Conductor's Competition, in Stavanger, Norway. In september 2015 Jaap won the VNO-NCW talent award. Besides getting the award, Jaap received a scholarship.
Currently, Jaap is often invited as adjudicator, teacher and conductor.
